Karl Ulle Project Manager, Senior Architect Karl is a native San Diegan and has been involved in the construction industry for over 25 years. He began his building construction career as a journeyman carpenter. During this time he acquired hands-on experience with materials and installations covering several building trades; including framing, roofing, drywall, plaster, electrical and plumbing. Following his field experience, he worked as a CADD draftsman and designer in a structural engineering office for two years before he began school to study architecture. Building upon his previous academic background (Associate in Arts degree in graphic communications and a Bachelor of Arts degree as a pre-law special major), Karl studied architecture and structural engineering and received his Master of Architecture degree from Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arch). Following his formal study, Karl worked as a project manager in several southern California architectural firms. He has been a principal partner of a drafting and design business, and has managed his own design/build office. His experience encompasses a wide range of product and construction types. Some of these include: a dormitory, motel, parking structure, a cogeneration structure, biotech research and development facilities, adaptive reuse office space, tenant improvements, and large custom homes. Project construction types include wood frame, masonry, and concrete tilt-up construction. Karl has more than seven years of experience in the field of forensic architecture and has performed inspections at over 3,000 buildings or residences in California, Nevada, Arizona and Texas. While with RWJA he has been responsible for the management of over thirty projects. He has prepared budgets, performed visual inspections, supervised and determined scopes of destructive testing, analyzed data, authored issue responses and repair recommendations, assigned trade issue responsibility, and participated in mediation and arbitration proceedings. His projects have ranged in size from a single health care facility to hundreds of single-family homes. Karl is registered with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is a licensed architect in California (C-23766), Nevada (4685), and Arizona (4685). He has been licensed as a general contractor (B HIC - #751274) since 1999. |
